The Beginning An Unwritten Canvas
Inspired by Genesis 1:2
There once was a canvas stretched wide across a studio floor—vast, untouched, and blank. No lines, no colors, no story. Just silence.
The Artist entered the room, not with brushes, but with breath. The canvas was formless and void, and shadows danced across its surface like memories not yet born. Around it swirled the noise of the city, the ache of forgotten dreams, and the weight of questions that had no answers.
But the Artist did not rush.
He hovered.
He hovered like a mother bird over her nest, like a whisper waiting for a listener, like a promise suspended in time. His breath moved gently across the canvas—not painting, not forcing, just waiting. Watching. Loving.
And slowly, the canvas began to respond.
Not with color, but with openness. Not with form, but with surrender.
The Artist dipped His hand into the deep—into the chaos, the grief, the confusion—and began to shape. Not with paint, but with presence. Not with answers, but with light.
And the first stroke was not a line, but a word:
“Begin.”

Just a Thought: The Hovering Comes First
In a world obsessed with productivity, clarity, and instant transformation, Genesis 1:2 reminds us that creation begins in the void. The Spirit doesn’t rush to fix the chaos—it hovers. Tenderly. Patiently. Purposefully.
For people today, this verse is permission to pause. To honor the seasons of emotional fog, spiritual confusion, or creative emptiness. These aren’t signs of failure—they’re sacred thresholds. The hovering is not passive; it’s preparatory. It’s the divine presence drawing near before the breakthrough.
Before the masterpiece, there is the hovering. Before the clarity, there is the chaos. Before the transformation, there is the tenderness of waiting.
Coaching Suggestion: The Hovering Practice
Title: The 7-Minute Hover
Purpose: To cultivate presence in the midst of emotional or creative uncertainty.
Instructions:
Set a timer for 7 minutes.
Sit in silence—no journaling, no praying, no planning. Just breathe.
Visualize the Spirit hovering over your life like light over water. Not fixing. Just being.
Repeat aloud (or whisper): “Even here, the Spirit hovers.” Say it slowly, like a mantra. Let it settle into your breath.
When the timer ends, write one word that surfaced during the silence. That word becomes your seed for the day.
Optional Ritual: Light a candle before you begin. Blow it out when the timer ends, symbolizing the transition from hovering to creating.
Journaling Prompt: The Canvas Within
"Where in my life do I feel formless, empty, or submerged in an emotional deep? What would it look like to let the Spirit hover there—without rushing to fix, define, or escape?"
Be honest with yourself. Let your journaling be raw, unfiltered, and sacred. Later on you might even think about sharing with a friends or a loved one. Encouraging them to share their “canvas words” from the 7-minute hover.
Reflection Prompt: Where in your life do you feel like the unwritten canvas is formless, void, or submerged in emotional deep? What might it mean to let the Spirit hover there, without rushing to fix or define?
Affirmation Ritual: Light a candle in a dark room. Sit in silence for 3 minutes. Whisper aloud: "Even here, the Spirit hovers." Repeat until the silence feels sacred.
